Hypocrites And The Den Of Robbers

What has the church become? A bunch of leaders that live hypocritical lives and filled with people that are as gullible as fish. How gullible are they?

Just say the magic words…..

Anointing, Power, Empowerment, Favor, Purpose, Destiny, Material Wealth.

And like a magnet pulling metal objects, they come running. Then you have people that never heard the voice of God before, claim a calling. The gift of gab is no qualification for ministry. Anyone can talk, but is there any demonstration of the Spirit and of power?

Just go to your conventions and meetings. Go to church and these things are lacking. What makes up for the lack of the presence of the Lord? Music. Music. And more music. That spiritual feeling is something that we have to have to make us or help us feel spiritual. But what is really going on? Have we reduced the work of the Holy Spirit to just feelings?

Absolutely.

We go back to our private lives and nothing has really changed. We watch the same TV shows. We say the same things. We don’t talk about the Lord to others. We live just like…..the world we claim we desire to win to the Lord.

Except the world is not buying it.

They know we are hypocrites. They know we are a den of robbers. We come to the place where God is supposed to help us live better lives than before and all we are told is anointing, power, empowerment, favor, purpose, destiny, material wealth.

And don’t forget to leave your pay check in the offering plate, and bring next week’s check when you come back.

Don’t forget to stop by the bookstore. Please get our book, “Getting Out Of Debt To Be A Blessing.” We accept all major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and all debit cards. Cash only, no personal checks.

Years ago, many disgruntled preachers decided to change the gospel message. After preaching for years for next to nothing. In an instant, the gospel of prosperity popped up. Many of God’s people started giving enormous amounts of money to preachers. Preachers would line up speaking engagements and conventions. It got over into excessive and frivolous activity that would make Paul’s bones cringe. Paul ministered many years with challenges beyond anyone’s imagination.

Yet, he did what he had to do.

Pay his own way, and the way of his entourage. Only one church thought of meeting Paul’s expenses. The Philippian church. Everyone else said, “You must be kidding!”

But did Paul complain? No. He made tents. Got paid for an honest day’s work (tent making), and preached the gospel anyway. After he was done, he got his boat tickets for him and his crew, and went to the next engagement.

Preacher predators only have one thing in mind as a predator. You gotta die because I gotta eat. Hence, you gotta give, so I can live.

Preachers these days, (me included) will never have an idea what it’s like to preach under Paul’s conditions. Many of us claim to be anointed and we know we aren’t, but if we could fool somebody, we eat, excuse me, feast tonight. Many will fuss and argue, and say that we need to pay pastors more. Let’s be reasonable about it. Not manipulative. So, the bulk of their messages will be about “tithes and offerings,” putting undue stress on the mother that is legitimately trying to feed her family. The father that is trying to make ends meet.

Why don’t the preacher learn to walk by faith and not by sight him or herself?

Seldom will you see preachers take their mink coat off and leave it with a homeless person.

We can’t help but also realize that million dollar mansions are not appropriate. Especially when you have people in your congregation that pay their tithes and offerings to your church, only to return to fight with the rat gnawing on the piece of wood that kept them up last night. Only to watch a family look into an empty refrigerator. Only to watch a family get out of the car to attend church; the car they slept in last night, and for the last three months because daddy lost his job.

We seldom hear messages about God changing our lives because the preacher doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers. If you start talking about things that really affect the way we live, the crowd will leave. When people leave, money goes with them. The big building you bought and built will not be paid for. Kiss your salary goodbye.

Then you make every effort to get out on the preacher circuit to preach your “A” message. Get a couple of thousand dollars in honorariums. Sell your books and CD’s. Pass out your email address and cards to other club members (prominent preachers), and you are set. Attend their conferences, or have a conference of your own and invite your club members. One hand washes the other. Rub my back, and I’ll be sure to rub yours.

Pay for my flight and hotel. What a life!

We read about stuff happening in our communities and we think nothing of it. It’s not like this every where. There are some ministers that live legitimate lives in the Lord and the house of worship is a genuine house of worship. There are pastors that care nothing about the club members of preachers.

However, many preachers have deep seated aspirations to make it like the others. To make their name known. To ride above the stars of heaven. Like a showman on The Ed Sullivan Stage.

We no longer cry out to God. We seldom work the Word in our own lives. Rarely are we moved by God to do His will. Chances are, we are just as filthy as the bones that lay in the cave of robbers. Hypocrites only look out for the bottom line. The outside of our garments must be pristine, but we all know that inside our cup bowl is last year’s meal. We wash the outside but the inside is full of bacteria, mold, and hints of what was last eaten when it was last cleaned.

We love to tell others how to live while we live what they are going through as far as sin is concerned. It’s very easy to tell others about their sins and our sins remain unchecked. As Paul said, “…disqualified.”

Oh, that’s 1 Corinthians 9:27.

The music minister looks at sister so and so. It’s that hook up time of month for these two. Pastor closes the door while he attends to some one on one counseling with a man, but that look in the man’s eyes was not right. And you know it. The First Lady is seen with another woman, but every one knows that this woman got some stuff because she’s looking mighty masculine, and smelling like Old Spice and Brut too.

You see, the church is no longer a place where the respect for the presence of God is foremost and preeminent. Where the fear of God is known. Where people carry this fear every where they go. The fear of the Lord is not just reverence, but it is also the ability to be very afraid to cross God. Used to be that you wouldn’t ever spit in front of the church. However, I will admit that back in the day, people did smoke outside the church. And that, while the pastor is preaching.

The Internet has a way of making church look perfect and neat but there is a lot of stuff going on behind the nip and tuck of ministry. Stuff that the Father sees every where. Granted, the church will never be perfect, but the perfecting Word is there to correct, instruct, rebuke, stir up, believers in the way of righteousness. This instruction is not just for Sunday morning but for the believer for the rest of their lives.

We forget that we only have a short time on earth and live like we are staying here forever. One person once said that the Bible is Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. This is good but the instructions that were placed in the Word of God were given to us to help us live while we are on earth. When we get to heaven, and not all of man wants to go to heaven, the instructions learned is just a glimpse of the way heaven is all the time. That’s why Jesus prayed, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

When we live our lives like sinners, surely, it is not the will of God on earth.

The one way that you will know that you are not a hypocrite is Matthew 7:21-27 and James 1:22-25.

You cannot claim to be a disciple of Christ if you do opposite of what a disciple of Christ does. So, when you are a preacher and you teach the Word of God, make sure that you are living what you are teaching. It makes no sense trying to teach people what you haven’t been willing to learn yourself. If you’ve been touched by this, that means you still have a heart that desires all of God.

Your spirit, soul, and body was designed to be inhabited fully by God. Not so that you can be like the sorcerer in Acts 8, but to be effective as you are affected by the Word and presence of the Lord. People will know that you have been with the Lord when they see a change in your life, not by how well you can preach.

It’s a life well lived that makes the difference.

Lord knows that the world has had enough of watching the drama. It is time for the sons and daughters of God to manifest.

After all, all creation has been waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.

They’ve had enough of hypocrites and the den of robbers.
