Maya Angelou, Homosexuality, And Hell

Dr. Maya AngelouThe renown poet, author, Maya Angelou left this life at the age of 86 in North Carolina.

Many accolades, tributes, and eulogies are pouring in from around the world.

The HuffPost, a well known homosexual supporting newspaper has sung her praises about what she said about homosexual love.

In the article below, the statement she made in 2009 in the ear of three New York State Senators is a clear indication of a position that is against the Word of God. We must remember that no matter how much we want to preach people into heaven, the only Person that has the last say about who gets in is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Book of Life has all the names written in heaven and if your name is not listed, you are not getting in.

And we must also be aware that we can’t preach people into hell.

If you are not in Jesus anyway, guess what? When you open your eyes in torment, your will put you there.

The Bible is clear about what Jesus said.

“Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

There is a story in the Bible, particularly the book of Luke where Jesus gave, not a parable, but an actual story of a man that died and went to Abraham’s bosom, and a man that died and ended up in Hades.

Mind you, in Hades before the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and the ascension of Jesus and the OT saints, everyone went to Hades. Except in Hades, there are two compartments. One compartment was called “Abraham’s Bosom,” and the other compartment is called “torment.”

When the Lord Jesus was raised from the dead, “Abraham’s Bosom” was cleared out of all the righteous that followed the law in the OT, but the unrighteous remained in the compartment of “torment.”

You see, if you are not born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God. That’s what the Lord Jesus said.

IF you call yourself a “Christian,” this means that you are a follower or adherent of the Lord Jesus and His Word. To be a true adherent of The Lord Jesus, you must do what He said in His Word.

You can’t say that you are a Christian and take a position that is against the Word of God. You can’t say that you are a Christian and sin against God’s Word.

Matthew 15:7-9 the Lord Jesus said, “Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘these people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

While the Lord was addressing the spiritual leadership of the children of Israel, it carries weigh today. There are many people that claim to be a worshipper of Jesus but their hearts are far from the Lord.

It’s called “Hypocrisy.”

Maya Angelou was also an actress.

This is not a slight at her but it is the truth.

What is the real proof of a person that is born again?

Look at what the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 7:17-21, “Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

What is the will of the Father?

Before we answer that question with the Word of God, take note of 1 John 2:15-17.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world —the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

The Lord Jesus said in John 17:3, And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

The will of God is to know the Father and to know His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 7:21, not everyone that says “Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

That’s the will of God.

Homosexuality is not the will of God. Sin is not the will of God. The things that are in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father. Therefore, it is not the will of the Father. It is the will of the devil, and it is the will of the world. Only the ones that does what Jesus said will abide forever. Only the ones that does the will of the Father is granted entrance into the kingdom of heaven.

Some will say that Maya Angelou only made a statement to support homosexuality. It has nothing to do with “religion.”

That’s right because religion is empty and vain.

We are talking about being born again which transcends what the mind declares what religion is. When a man declares the rules and never consult the truth in the Word of God, that person’s religion is vain. A person that knows God, knows what His will is.

Homosexuality is not the express will of the Father.

Some will try to give her a pass and say that she didn’t know.

The rich man that went to the place of torment” could have went to the priests and found the truth, but he didn’t.

Much like today. People know where the truth is. The truth is on almost every corner in America. Almost on every country side where a local church is. At anytime, she could have walked in. On top of this, she is a writer. A writer loves books. At any time, she could have consulted the Book of all books.

The Bible.

Here in America, access to the Bible is everywhere. On our electronic devices, we can click the Bible for free.

The million dollar question is………“Could a person go to hell if they support or are involved in the sin of homosexuality?”

Let’s consult the Bible.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 says,  “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

While we know that Maya Angelou was sexually abused, but did she willingly participate in the sin of homosexuality? We can’t say.

But what about the heart?

We’ve already covered the condition of the heart with what the Lord Jesus said about being born again.

But look at Revelation 20:11-15 “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened.

And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.

And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Remember. John said he saw the dead. Who are the dead? The ones that never repented to receive eternal life. You see, you are either dead to God or alive to God. If you never repented (change your mind about God and sin), if you never made Jesus the Lord of your life, if you never believed that Jesus died for your sins and was raised from the dead, if the Holy Spirit never made you a new creature in Jesus, you cannot get into heaven.

The works of righteousness take place after you are born again, not before. Therefore, you cannot work your way into heaven while remaining in the same spiritual condition of sin.

Maya Angelou lived a life that was extraordinary. But extraordinary is not enough to get into the kingdom of heaven.

So before you preach her or anyone else into heaven, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure. And be sure that when you talk about folk, find out if they did the will of the Father.

GCMWatch has written a very compelling piece and here is the link…

And here is the link to the HuffPost regarding her statement about homosexual love.

Author: The Minister's Crucible

The Minister's Crucible is designed to inform the Body of Christ about the inner workings of the ministry. The word Crucible from Latin, is "crux" where we get the word "cross" from. It also means a "metal container" where metals and other substances are melted or are subjected to higher temperatures, put to the temperature test. The Lord Jesus said "If any man desires to follow after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me." Let's take up our cross and follow Him.

    1. There is no question about her contributions. She is a remarkable woman according to man’s standard, however the Bible clearly says, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” We know what is in a persons heart when they talk. Regarding the sin of homosexuality, she supports what God hates. There is no known record to date that she recanted that statement. As far as salvation is concerned, it is my job as a preacher to preach the Word whether you like it or not. It is my job to preach the truth as stated in the Word of God. You have the choice to listen and comment, and get the Word preached to you, or walk away.

When will people defend the Word of God and stop defending sin?

Obviously, you think that I am cold hearted. Read Luke 13:1-5 and you will see that Jesus was more than cold. People died and Jesus said, “Do you think that they were worse sinners because a tower fell on them. I tell you no, but unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish.”

Paul said, “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?”

I have never said that she went to hell, and neither did I say that she went to heaven, as many of you would like for that to happen. In the heat of your perceived anger, it is evident that you assume that good people go to heaven. Read Romans 3:23-24 and Isaiah 64:6 very carefully. You will find the phrase “filthy rags” is defined as a filthy menstrual cloth. Jesus said, “There is none that is good but the Father.” Paul said in Romans 1, “There is none that does good. No not one.”

Being good and doing wonderful works is not enough to get into heaven according to what the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23. It is only by the blood of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit making us new creatures that we enter into heaven. “For by grace are you save through faith and that not of yourselves, it (grace) is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.”Ephesians 2:8-9. For once, people need to stand on the truth of God’s Word instead of the “good” works of men to get into heaven.

Peter said, “Be even more diligent to make your call and election sure.” In other words, make sure that you are a Christian according to Matthew 7:21-23. Jesus said, “With their lips they worship Me, but their hearts are far from Me.” Saying that you are a Christian (like many have said) and doing what Jesus said is two different things. If you say that you are a Christian but say that you support the sin of homosexuality is inconsistent with what God said. So be very careful to make sure that what you say lines up with what God said. Let’s not get His Word twisted.

  1. The “strong delusion” that Scripture speaks of is in full bloom during this age that we live in. While some may argue that the widespread cultural acceptance of sexual immorality and deviance according to the Bible’s standard is not the strong delusion Scripture is referring to, one thing is clear; when those of us who name the Name of Jesus Christ accept beliefs, philosophies, doctrines, customs and lifestyles of this world that are diametrically opposed to what the Bible says, we are strongly deluded.

I can only hope that near, towards and at the end, she saw the light of the Truth and repented. We have an unequivocal obligation as followers-of-Christ to uncompromisingly and unswervingly uphold Biblical precedent regardless of the cultural tide against it. The reality of eternity and the inevitability of each of us standing before the Holy God of Heaven causes everything in this world to pale and be seen for how transient and unstable it is. I am building my hope on Christ the Solid Rock and it is upon Him that I will stand.
    Even so, Come Lord Jesus!!!
