Money & Preachers: A Potentially Lethal Combination
When it comes to preachers and money, it is one of the most volatile subjects in the church in the United States. Looking at both sides of the argument. People sometimes want poor preachers and preachers want to live extravagant lives to avoid poverty or the appearance of poverty.
To this day, many people still believe that preachers ought not make a living off of the gospel.
If a preacher starves, lives homeless, and can’t provide for his or her family, it seems like a roar of approval is echoed without any tears of pity. It’s part of the ministry. It goes with the territory.
The more poor preachers, the better.
Then the opposite is rich preachers. Million dollar mansions. High end cars. Wives and women. You heard me right. There are preachers that have women on the side. Men preachers too, in homosexual relationships.
I believe that there should be balance. A preacher, if commanded by the Lord, is to live primarily off of the gospel of Jesus Christ, within the means of the legal definition of “reasonable compensation,” then people ought not have a problem with it. But even if it were reasonable compensation, a small renegade bunch of folk will always have a problem with it.
What is the fuel for these things?
In the United States, there are many of God’s people and preachers that are walking around aimless.
What does it mean to be aimless?
Aimless means “without purpose or direction.”
When you watch preachers get involved in questionable endeavors, it begs one to ask the question. What is our purpose and direction?
The Head of the Called Out Ones gave us all the purpose and direction we need.
The Great Commission is the current “standing orders” given to His apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, for the perfecting or maturation of the saints, for the work of the service or ministry, for the edifying or building up of the edifice of the Body of Christ.
This means that if we are not busy doing exactly what the Lord commissioned us to do, then we will do what the devil wants us to do. Be busy doing everything else instead of what the Lord Jesus told us to do.
Therefore, a purposeless agenda is an agenda that obviously is unauthorized by the Lord that has no eternal value.
However, there is also a purpose with intent with bits and pieces of the gospel. Given as elements of truth to obscure the real agenda of duping the gullible saints according to Proverbs 14:15. With smooth words, the unsuspecting are told of obtaining great riches as a result of “sowing” money or goods into the man or woman of God.
There are many preachers in the United States that have built vast “empires” and there are many preachers that quietly go about their business without notice.
Yet, as they go about the business of the Father without notice, you will note that they are doing the most damage to the kingdom of darkness. Under the nose of the enemy, they are witnessing and testifying of the Lord and His gospel. People are getting into the kingdom of God. In turn, they are reproducing Jesus without fanfare and broadway lights.
They are not distracted and they want to keep it that way.
There are many preachers that want the notoriety and to be a part of the parade of the stars. Yet, we see that when these things come, the expectation of their ministries and the person heading these ministries become the focal point of attention.
The Lord Jesus experienced “fame” when He came on the scene.
Matthew 4:24-25 says,
“Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon- possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Great multitudes followed Him — from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.”
The word “fame” means “heard.” In other words, the people heard about Jesus.
What we are seeing is a perverted form of fame. People are no longer attracted to the holiness or righteousness that must be evident in the lives of preachers.
People are attracted to the “bling” of preachers.
The late Dr. Oral Roberts, in his autobiography that I read, said that the Lord told him not chase after the “gold, the girls, or the glory.”
These days, you might as well add don’t touch “the gentlemen.”
Whether same sex or opposite sex.
In ministry, the glitter is litter.
In my previous blog, I shared about Kenneth Hagin’s book called “The Midas Touch.” It was a very prophetic book regarding the false teaching of the prosperity message.
Just in case you don’t understand what Midas means, it means “a king of Phrygia, who, according to one story, was given by Dionysus the power of turning everything he touched into gold.”
It also means as a phrase….
“the Midas touch [is] the ability to make money out of anything one undertakes.”
The same is happening among some preachers today where they believe that every thing that they touch must turn into gold. The push to be famous and rich in ministry is relentless.
Sadly, it seems like this is the only pursuit among some ministers today. This kind of perverted fame is evident in many sectors of the administration (see 1 Corinthians 12:5) of the Lord Jesus. We should not lose heart because there are a few that will not chase after uncertain riches or minister for filthy lucre or illicit gain.
In 2 Corinthians 4:1-2, Paul said “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”
Listen to the heart of Paul that is virtually absent in some of today’s preachers from 1 Corinthians 9:11-18.
“Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? For it is written in the law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about?
Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.
If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more?
Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.
Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar?
Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
But I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void.
For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.
What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.”
It’s only in isolated places where you hear any preaching along these lines. Quite the opposite is preached because to preach anything else, it would not bring in the bacon.
If you are not making money or turning everything that you do into something that will produce money, then you are not considered successful.
Homes, cars, clothing, airplanes, large honorariums and book deals is a false measurement of success.
Big buildings, big honorariums, large groups of people to minister to.
But notice the distinguishing factor of the ministry of Jesus. The power of the Holy Spirit was upon the Lord Jesus to heal the sick, cast out devils, and heal other diseases.
In other words, Jesus had the goods. The proof of His ministry was evident.
There is indisputable evidence of the ministry of Jesus but is there the same or similar evidence in preachers today? The Lord gives us the measurement that tells us that either we have the power of God or we don’t.
Notice what Jesus said in Luke 12:48.
“But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”
You see, it’s about what you have and what you do not have as far as God’s power is concerned.
There is no sense going to a chicken place if the chicken isn’t good.
Yet, we go to places where the power of God is non existent and there is a reason.
First, there is no living out the Word of God. There may be preaching but there may not be any living of what is preached. The power of God never flows out because one says that there is power. The evidence is when the life of the person God use is holy on the level that the Word requires.
Secondly, the power of God is not left to us to turn on and off when we want. The Holy Spirit is the One that administers the power of God as He wills, not as we will.
Thirdly, all things done must point back to the Lord Jesus and the gospel that He commissioned us to preach. The release of the power of God serves as a witness to them to repent of their sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved.
We do not have to force the issue. We do not have to put ourselves out on a limb. We do not have to advertise. When the Holy Spirit sees fit that the Word is preached, that a person’s life lines up with the Word, and the people are prepared to receive, it’s all left up to the Holy Spirit, not us.
God will not be put on the spot. He is God. Not a genie.
So people end up in places where there is a chance that God’s power might show up. If you were to count on your hand how many times you’ve seen the Lord do something spectacular, you will shock yourself.
The gospel message is very simple, yet, we have made it into something to force God to do something to prove something. God is God. He sits on the throne. He does as He pleases. He honors faith in His Word. God doesn’t owe us anything. We owe Him all.
So when it comes to money and preachers, we need to ask ourselves a couple of questions.
How long will it be until we come to our senses and be what He wants us to be instead of trying to make God be something? And when will we cry out for balance?
Men are constantly tempted. However, it’s not just the temptation that one has to be concerned about. Every man must be concerned about the lust that lurks within the mind and body. With the combination of lust in the hearts of males and the women wearing clothing (or tight fitting, low cleavage, high flirty skirt clothes) that leaves nothing to the imagination, it behooves the righteous males to be even more diligent with our personal conduct.
There are certain lines that men will cross. Every man is different. Some will just stay with porn and masturbation because the risks to engage a person sexually is high for that male.
What’s the risks?
Males fear relationships because it involves commitment and compromise.
For other males, they will cross the line to engage a woman for sex only. Even women do the same. Predominantly, they do not fear relationships, however, some are not ready YET, to get married, but some, not all, will engage a man sexually, and call it a day. Whether it is a one night stand or multiple partners.
It’s called fornication, or illegal sex.
Pathetically, males will go to great lengths to encounter underage girls.
Nonetheless, one of the stops for a male on the sexual hit parade is the peep shows. A male doesn’t have to actually go to a peep show facility because outside these peep shops are women that dress scantily and in most cases, they leave nothing for the imagination.
Blame must be imposed on both genders. Sadly, when normal attraction is perverted, we allow ourselves to be taken to the places of the extreme. When a person wants attention, some people will pull out all the stops to impress. It is also true that the exercise of femininity is a power women use over males. Not just to attract attention but to make them into “sugar daddy’s.”
In some ways, it is a form of unfettered slavery where a male cannot help himself. In order to have that kind of woman sexually, males will spend an enormous amount of money.
So males will engage in the mental peep show.
James, the first bishop of the assembly in Jerusalem wrote about the simple process of temptation.
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”
James speaks of falling “into various trials.”
Please note that he said……”when.”
Notice this in the Greek.
“g3986. πειρασμός peirasmos; from 3985; a putting to proof (by experiment (of good), experience (of evil), solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication, adversity:— temptation, x try.”
Now notice these notes that accompanied the definition.
- The trial of man’s fidelity, integrity, virtue, constancy an enticement to sin, temptation, whether arising from the desires or from the outward circumstances.
- an internal temptation to sin of the temptation by which the devil sought to divert Jesus the Messiah from his divine errand of the condition of things.
- or a mental state, by which we are enticed to sin, or to a lapse from the faith and holiness.
- adversity, affliction, trouble: sent by God and serving to test or prove one’s character, faith, holiness.
- temptation ( i. e. trial) of God by men rebellion against God, by which his power and justice are, as it were, put to the proof and challenged to show themselves.
Yet, the root of trials is “test.”
So when it comes to sexual temptations, it’s a test.
Jesus let’s us know where the “test” begins.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-30,
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery. ’But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”
Notice how the Lord started off about “You shall not commit adultery.”
All of a sudden you feel safe. You didn’t touch another man’s wife or have illegal sex with a single woman while you are married, however, the Lord took it further.
“whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
That pretty much knocks out a vast majority of us males.
If at one point or another, we’ve all intentionally look at a woman to lust after her in our hearts. It is considered by the Lord as adultery.
So the root cause of adultery resides in the heart of a man. The fallen nature of man is prone to lust. Lust is defined in most places of the NT as “longing for that which is prohibited or forbidden.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10 says,
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
The true measure of a person’s salvation is never determined by just what a person says. You must also consider how a person “acts” or their “deeds” and “thoughts.”
So the person’s heart is the source of man.
Notice what Proverbs 4:23 said.
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it (the heart) spring the issues of life.”
So when a man commits adultery in his heart, he has failed to “keep his heart with all diligence.”
Notice what the apostle John said in 1 John 5:19.
“We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.”
So the next question is “How does a male keep himself or keep his heart?
Psalm 119:9 gives an answer.
“How shall a young man cleanse his way, by taking heed there unto according to Your Word.”
“Taking heed” is equivalent to obeying the Word of God.
The NLT says this of that Psalm.
“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying Your Word.”
So as long as a man obeys the Word of God, he can stay pure before God.
How can this work?
1 Corinthians 10:13 gives the answer.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
There is a variety of ways that the Holy Spirit makes a way of escape, however, the primary way of escape is complete and total obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in strict, immediate, and unconditional obedience to the Word of God in the moment of temptation.
This is where many males fail to become men.
Instead of falling into the presence of The Lord, males fall into Secret Sexual Sins.
Dr. Archibald Hart said that if you occupy the mind for 15 minutes, you would be able to alter the course of thinking about sex. Paul said that we are to “renew the mind” and be “renewed in the spirit of your mind.”
You must take charge of your mind and what is trafficked in the mind. Yes, with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can become the traffic cop in the mind to stop the peep show.
We are tested every day. How we mature and what we do about every temptation is the true tale of the tape. The male mind is “wired for intimacy or sex” according to Dr. William Struthers. That’s why we can think about sex on the subway, car, or bus, and get an erection.
Many of you will ask, “How did Jesus do it?”
Well, the Bible tells us that He was “tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin.”
I call this the “Sexual Discipline Of Jesus.”
If Jesus was tempted like we are in “ALL POINTS,” then there were multiple moments when thoughts about perversion and sexual immorality attempted to enter His mind, but He didn’t yield to these perverted thoughts. During the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness by the devil, The Lord understood that to fall into any temptation in thought, deed, and words, He would be disqualified.
Not only disqualified, being that He was the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world, perhaps, there would have been no one to take away His sin should He sin. So the stakes to remain pure were high. Yet, He dealt a dispatching blow to every temptation.
How did Jesus do it?
He prayed when tempted or He immediately confronted the tempter. This is something that must be initiated. To be passive about attacking temptation only opens the door to love sin more than you love God.
Jesus got up early in the morning or after He finished ministering, He headed to the mountains to seek the face of God. The Holy Spirit made a way of escape in the place of prayer. Fellas, we need to do the same thing. We need to escape and pray to seek the face of God in the moment of temptation.
Men, we can do the same thing like Jesus. Fight temptation by acting quickly, and without hesitation.
Part two to follow.
How to become an ex gay affirming church?
The word affirmation means “a statement affirming the existence or the truth of something.”
When we affirm an EX GAYS, we are declaring that there exist among us those that received the gospel of Jesus Christ, repented of sin, and they are living in obedience to the gospel.
Since there are a number churches throughout the United States that affirm the sin of homosexuality by affirming gays at an alarming rate, the church must make a bold statement to counter what LGBT in the church has done successfully.
They affirm gays, the true church affirms EX-GAYS.
If you are a pastor of a local church and you want to be an EX-GAYS affirming church on the record, the first thing that you want to do is go to the “Overcomer’s Network” site. “ON” is spearheading this movement. Here is the link to their site…
The Overcomer’s Network (ON) is a network of people that were delivered from homosexuality and is walking in total victory through the grace of Jesus Christ.
In cities around the United States, “ON” is reaching out to those bound in the sin of homosexuality and helping them to live Christ centered lives in holiness.
They have a listing of EX GAY AFFIRMING CHURCHES that speaks the truth about homosexuality and are prepared to minister to those bound in the sin of homosexuality.
Prevailing Word Ministries is proud to be a part of the listing of churches on the Overcomer’s Network (ON) that affirm EX-GAYS.
By listing your church on the Overcomer’s Network (ON), you are standing for righteousness, holiness, and you agree that you stand against the sin of homosexuality, but you also agree with the Word of God that God’s power to deliver all sinners from the power of sin is accomplished through repentance and obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ to live free of sin, including the sin of homosexuality.
The next thing that you want to do is go to your website and boldly make your church a place where EX GAYS are welcomed and affirmed. Communicate the fact that you welcome gays to come to your local church.
I recommend putting this statement in the vicinity of your tenets of faith. It should be seen that you are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
The next thing that you need to do is develop a statement using 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 as your base Scripture.
After that, you need to boldly declare the following things.
1. The Inerrancy and infallibility of the Word of God.
2. The unchangableness or immutability of God and His Word regarding homosexuality.
3. Make a Scriptural statement about the love of God to deliver all persons from all sin, including the sin of homosexuality.
4. Make a statement about the LGBT agenda attempting to silence the church into submission by hijacking Civil Rights; turning the sin of homosexuality into an argument about sexual orientation, and discrimination. That these are false means to condone a sin that God clearly condemns in Scripture.
Finally, 5. Make a statement that all sinners are welcome but that you will unequivocally speak the truth, live the truth, and stand for the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Spirit of God will give you what you need when you make a courageous move to declare unapologetically that you are an EX GAY AFFIRMING CHURCH.
Feel free to go to our website at pwbconline.org, click the “ABOUT” column, and that will lead you to our “PWBC: AN EX GAY AFFIRMING CHURCH” page.
This is a God moment and God has people in place to make this happen.
The worst fear of LGBT is when a person comes out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Together, we can make a bold statement.
Be prepared for the rewards of this but be prepared for the war.
As time progress, leaders must be watchful in all things. When coming out of the snares of sexual sins, they must learn themselves in the natural. As long as we are alive on this planet, it is a smart thing to learn your sexual tendencies, habits, patterns, practices, rituals, and routines.
The smarter you become about how you are tempted, the better you are able to develop resistance against the next level of temptation. As you have engaged in sin, you have incorporated unhealthy sexuality. Now that you have come from the darkness into the light of Christ, you now have to incorporate healthy sexuality in terms of choices and decisions.
As The Preacher said, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven…a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.”
The half brother of the Lord Jesus, James, tells us that we are to “Submit ourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Peter says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, stedfast in the faith…”
As you put distance from the last time you’ve grieved the Lord, you should not waste time waiting to be tempted to get ready. As soon as the last sin is over, your mind and body is planning a comeback. When habits, patterns, and routines aren’t broken, then the mind plans another round of sin.
That’s where you will find that your repentance has sticking or staying power or you were just playing.
Repentance is always the starting point after sin, but very few make an aggressive plan to fight the next temptation. When your sin is still “fresh in you flesh,” these are the most difficult moments to make a stand. That’s why you have to identify “trigger mechanisms” that set things off in your mind and flesh to start you down the path of resuming business as usual.
If you are married, porn and masturbation went from recreation to “can’t live without it.”
So, lets start with breaking this sin first. You repent. You sensed that the Lord forgave you. You receive forgiveness and you feel like a new man. You promise not to sin that sin again.
You now set yourself to keep that promise.
Psalm 119:9-11 says….
“How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your Word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandment. Your Word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”
How are you going to stop from breaking your promise to God?
The question is answered with a question.
“How shall a young man cleanse his way?”
The response is simple, yet, profound.
“By taking heed according to Your Word.
From the point of the promise to never sin that sin again, you have to “cleanse your way.”
In Matthew 7, Jesus likens a person that hear His sayings and does them as a wise man that builds his house on a rock. As long as you hear the Word of God and then do the Word of God, the house you build is secure. Now mind you, the storms of life will come. Rain will descend, floods will come, and the winds will beat upon your house, BUT…..it will remain standing because the foundation is solid. You built your house on a rock.
Doing the Word after hearing the Word is the building of the house upon a rock.
James tells us to….“Be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Here is a key…Do the Word and not do porn and masturbation.
Paul said this in Romans chapter 6…..“And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”
Paul also said this in the 12th chapter of Romans…..”But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust.”
Instead of making provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust, make provision for the spirit to worship God in spirit and in truth.
We easily submit to the heated sexual moments that run rampant through our minds. When this occurs, this is the opportunity to remember the promise you made to God not to sin that sin again. This is the moment that the Holy Spirit will work with you in your weak moment to give you strength to overcome temptation. Sometimes you do not have to go places to be tempted. All you have to do is remember habits, rituals, cycles, practices.
I find that when I do remember these sinful habits, the Holy Spirit brings to my attention 1 Corinthians 10:13 and 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.
So I submit to God.
If you hesitate, that’s the ill fated moment the devil was waiting for.
During my time of subsequent relapses in mid 2012, it’s those moments that I let my guard down (not porn but masturbation).
When the situations of life come at you, you think about relief and feeling good, sex will do that according to Dr. Archibald Hart who wrote the book on The Sexual Man. When life comes at you and you are not vigilant, that’s when the flesh and mind wanders from the commandments of the Lord. When you are not practicing the presence of the Lord, your spirit man is weak.
Proverbs 24:10 says…..
“If you faint in the day of adversity your strength is small.”
So how do I build my strength up to withstand in the moment of temptation?
Prayer and obeying the Word. You must be ruthless on your flesh and mind (see 1 Corinthians 9:27 and Colossians 3:5).
If you practice His presence within you, you will “take up your cross and follow Him.” Living the crucified life requires the measure and level of Paul’s life. “I die daily.”
The urges and impulses that operate within you were put there by the Lord, but when Adam fell into sin, they became perverted. After being born again, the mind and flesh now has to commit to doing righteousness. Spirit, soul, and body must now work in unison with the Holy Spirit to obey the Word of God on a moment’s notice. The enemy will not waste time with you. Each moment counts. When you submit yourself without hesitation, that means you have put on the armor of light and you are ready to do battle.
Submission is where it all begins. Submission to God through His Word.
Afterwards, you must be vigilant. You have to watch your every thought. You have to watch where you put your hands at night. You have to do what is necessary to keep your promise not to grieve the Lord in sin. Then, you have to spend time strengthening your heart, mind, and flesh to withstand temptation.
This is accomplished by a variety of means. Very few will win the battle against temptation who constantly feeds on the world and starves themselves of the Word. The more Word you feed on, the more of the world gets starved out of you. Remember, your heart is like a field. Whatever seed is planted, that is what will manifest as a harvest.
Paul said this is Galatians 6……
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
That’s the difference between victory and defeat.
Whatever you feed on is the difference. How much time you spend in either will be the difference. As you feed on the world your spirit man grows weaker and will never be able to withstand in the evil day. As you feed on the Word, your spirit man grows stronger and will be able to withstand in the evil day.
Paul also speaks of renewing the mind and the spirit of our minds. If you preoccupy your mind with things of the flesh, your mind will resume habits, rituals, cycles, and practices. To break these things, you must renew the mind. Renovate the mind. Redo the mind with the Word of God.
You have to make a conscious decision to put into practice having the mind of Christ. As long as you do these things, you will master the mind and flesh, and victory, by the help of the Holy Spirit, is achievable.
Proverbs 8:13 says, “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.”
Pride and arrogance is always at the root of a fallen leader. In most cases, a sense of invincibility comes into the mind of a man and you begin to have a false sense of security. Security in the sense that you believe nothing is going to happen to you, or that you would not get caught.
There was once a king in Africa that was married. He had sex with a prostitute that was HIV/AIDS positive. While there is no such thing as unprotected sex because you either have sex or you don’t. Any way my point is that he wore no condom. Even condoms fail but the failure is not the point. Where your hands travel and where your penis goes, penetration is not necessary for infection.
That’s my point.
However, this king decided to have sex without a condom. A few years ago, on the continent of Africa, many people were ignorant of the transmission of diseases (STD). So, they would engage in sex and today, the pandemic of AIDS is an international crisis. This king of a nation thought that by taking a shower and washing his genitals, he would not get infected.
Pride and arrogance, when not removed by humility and wisdom is part of a male’s inability to guard against urges and impulses, which, in turn, dictates choices. When you got your flesh and mind set to engage in sex with a person, wisdom is thrown to the wind.
Psalm 107:17 says “Fools! Because of their transgressions and because of their iniquities are afflicted.”
The word “fools” means “to be perverse,” and it also means “one who despises wisdom.”
When it comes to sex, males will bypass every alarm just to engage in sex. When pride and arrogance kicks in, there is nothing that may stop him except if something happens by way of divine intervention.
Asa, king of Israel comes to mind when it comes to pride and arrogance.
However, let me share this. No matter the denomination or non denomination, when a leader becomes full of himself or herself, it is very easy to make a series of decisions that lacks basic judgment. When you see that a leader fails to operate in good judgment, it is a matter of time before they will make the ultimate decision that will cost him or her the pulpit.
We leaders sometimes forget that we operate under delegated authority. Leaders are not absolute authority. The measure or rule of authority is defined by the boundaries of the Word of God. To exceed the boundaries established by the Lord in His Word is extremely costly, and deadly.
Asa became king over Judah and Benjamin. In the 14th chapter of 2 Chronicles, Asa made a series of reformations that virtually destroyed idol worship and sexual immorality in the region. However, Asa left one thing undone. The high place remained. Anytime you leave something undone, it is indicative of not fully walking in obedience to the known will of God. If you are going to clear the deck, make every effort to clear the deck. Otherwise, it will come back at you in a very bad way.
Asa was tested. The Army of Asa was only 580,000 men. Then the Ethiopians came against Asa. 1 million men and 300 hundred chariots. Asa cried to the Lord and Judah prevailed. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Azariah the son of Oded and gave Asa the Word of the Lord (see 2 Chronicles 15). When you get to the 16th chapter, that’s when Asa lost it. He made a treaty with Syria to prevent Israel from from boxing in Judah. Israel was defeated by the Syrians but the Lord rebuked Asa for trusting in his own wisdom to get out of a situation.
The prophet Hanani gave Asa these words from the Lord.
“And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand. Were the Ethiopians and the Lubim not a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your hand. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.”
Asa was so furious and so full of himself that he put the prophet in jail.
Note also that the prophet said that “In this you have done foolishly…”
Do you recall Psalm 107:17?
The opposite of foolishness is wisdom.
Asa failed to call upon the Lord and called upon Syria. In the same manner, the deliverance would have been assured. God came through against 1 million men and 300 hundred chariots. To come against the Syrians would have been the same results. The end for Asa was tragic. Asa was diseased in his feet. To me, that signified Asa will walk the earth no more. Asa sought relief from the doctors and never thought to look to the Lord, first to repent, and second to get healed. Mind you that at any time, Asa could have repented and cried to the Lord to be healed, but pride and arrogance led him to his grave.
Asa sought his own means and look where it led him.
To his grave.
So it is with Secret Sexual Sins.
There are four things that is associated with pride and arrogance.
1. Elitism. 2. Empowerment. 3. Entitlement. 4. Expediency.
When you believe that you are elite, you will feel empowered to do anything. When you believe within yourself that you are empowered, you will deceive yourself into thinking that you are entitled to any man or woman to have them sexually. When you believe you are entitled, because of a lack of wisdom, you will do anything, including break the Word of God and the laws of man to achieve your prize of orgasm, hence expediency.
Sadly, many men (including myself) have fallen for this. In various ways, we have sinned before God because we thought that we were invincible. That nothing would happen. That we would get away with it.
There are no winners with pride and arrogance. The devil is the biggest loser of them all. Sadly, many men and women that were to be of God will lose with the devil. It doesn’t have to be this way.
“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…”
The pulpit is the second most powerful place in the world. The place of personal prayer in the life of leaders and believers is the first most powerful place on earth. The grace of God is there that permits us to speak the Word of God. The oracles and ability comes from the Father. We somehow, deceived ourselves into thinking that it’s all about us and the next thing that happens is a series of deliberate decisions to satisfy ourselves sexually.
The only way out of this is humility.
I’ll leave you with this.
Humbleness of mind and humility, once acted upon, will prevent humiliation.
Just to reiterate, I did not vote in the last presidential election because neither candidate appealed to me because of their stand on abortion and the sin of homosexuality and same sex unions.
These two positions go crosswise of the Word of God.
Standing on the side of God is better than erring on the side of voting for either candidate unwilling to choose the side of God and His Word.
Voting for either candidate is an endorsement the continuation of sin in the nation.
However, it’s not just from the political realm. We must remember that the influence of the most powerful place on earth has significantly deteriorated. The voice of righteousness in the church is no longer a moral voice, but a weak, tied in between the pillars church. Our eyes are gouged out and we are crying like a wounded pup.
The influence of the church is almost non existent, let alone, even heard when the church speaks. For we are a laughing stock of hypocrites. We call sin good. We take pleasure in those that commit sin and we love sin more than we love God. The entire church is not in this condition. There are many that never bowed their knee to Baal. The remnant recognizes that to turn away from the Lord now is the wrong move.
We must stay true and faithful to Him even if the rest walk away.
This being said, the next four years is going to be about the after affects of the positions of sin. When you deliberately set yourself against the known will of God, your fate is sealed. The further entrenching of the sin of homosexuality, the economic fallout, and the continued moral decay and decline of a once powerful nation will continue unless there is a definitive miracle of God working in the church.
Many of you have heard of the term “a turn for the worse.”
We are not just talking about the deteriorating financial conditions. The outward conditions of a decline have been in place for the last 11 years. Outward conditions are usually indicative of inward spiritual conditions.
The heart of man, where all activity occurs, determines the direction of the church and the community it’s supposed to righteously influence. I no longer say spiritually influence because people in the church could be demonically influenced. We do have double agents and sleeper cell people in the church. They are also called tares.
The proof of righteous people in the church is found in those that obey the Lord and His Word.
Jesus said in John 8:31-36 these words.
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered Him, We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, You will be made free? Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Your freedom is not found in committing sin. You really don’t know that the devil is taking you on a ride of destruction, using your free moral will to express his sinful desire through you. True freedom is found in doing what Jesus said. If you are a true disciple, you will stay free from sin.
God is not looking for you to be perfect. He is looking for you to look to the perfect law of liberty where Christ has made you free. Obey that perfect law of liberty and never look to deliberately defy God again. Some of you all will remember when you had arguments with your parents and your parents demanded that you not leave the house to go to a party. You got so mad that you defied that order and snuck out the house anyway.
You knew that when you got back, there would be stuff to pay. Just as sure as the sun rises in the east, they were waiting for you.
When you refuse to do the Word of God, you are not a disciple of Jesus. When you choose to obey the Word of God, you will prove your love for Him by doing what He said. If you cannot do what He said, you are not a disciple.
This is what the Lord Jesus said in Luke 14:33.
“So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
Forsaking “all that he has” means walking away from whatever holds you from fulling committing to Jesus. The parable of the sower is the gauge that determines whether you are a true disciple or not. When you are on good ground, it’s clear that you are a true disciple because you are producing fruit. When you are not producing fruit, you are on the wayside, stoney, or thorny ground.
This is proof that your discipleship in Christ is non existent.
However, it doesn’t have to be that way. At anytime you can simply move to good ground where production is guaranteed or you can stay where you are.
The choice is yours.
As man continues to decline and decay spiritually, the outward conditions of the United States will continue to decline. However, man will be resilient to ride the wave of disaster after disaster. The window dressing to make it appear as if nothing is wrong has been the bandaid on a gapping wound. It reminds me of the situation with Sandy.
You all remember Sandy?
The Weather Channel and the National Weather Service indicated with strong evidence and words that NYC will be hit with a surge. Mayor Bloomberg completely ignored the report. The Weather Channel was shocked that the mayor would not warn the people along the coast that they would be hit with the brunt of the storm. The mayor reluctantly reversed course.
This is the kind of attitude we have with the world. They can stand outside, look at a disaster and say the sun is shining when we all see that the sky is filled with darkness. So it is with this generation spiritually. You can call it what you want, but we all know that the dark hearts and minds of people will only see sunshine during a storm.
No one wants an economic disaster. No one wants to see people suffer. No one wants to watch children suffer.
However, when you walk away from God, all who walk away from God must suffer. The Lord is not going to make you accept His terms. The Lord will let you make up your mind.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
If you study the OT, you will see that when the children of Israel declined to walk in the ways of the Lord, the consequential judgment lasted for years. Decades even.
When the right ways of the Lord are perverted, we are left to our own devices.
The world does not like Jesus and His Word. They want to remake Him into the kind of Savior they want.
The world does not believe that Jesus is a Judge.
Jesus said, that He did not “come into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved.”
When did Jesus come into the world?
When He was born of the virgin Mary. However, He was crucified and then resurrected from the dead. He is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Paul said these words in 2 Timothy 4:8.
“Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
When the Day of the Lord comes, no one will be able to stand.
These next four years, we will see people that were once in the faith turn away. We’ve seen this already with Carlton Pearson, John Swilley, and many others. We’ve seen questionable doctrine preached and people’s faith subverted. The Word of Faith movement wasn’t as it was supposed to be. A “Let the good times roll” gospel. Also known as the gospel of prosperity.
We’ve seen many in the gospel music industry turn from the Lord. We’ve seen many homosexuals come out from the closet. Many that are involved as music ministers are living double lives. They appear anointed but are perverted. Some are just promiscuous porn perverts, bound to act out sexually in either prostitutes, girl/boy friends or both. They are addicted to self gratification, commonly called masturbation, addicted to the lusts of the flesh, eyes, and mind. Some are caught in the homosexual scene where they hook up on Saturday night but show up on the keyboard on Sunday morning with no fear of God before their eyes.
They’ve turned their backs on the Lord, some never to return.
Pastors are divorcing their wives to marry their same sex partner and install them as their First Gentleman or First Man. Deacons, elders, bishops, apostles and other title people are sleeping with sexually immoral women. We’ve seen well known and obscure pastors live double lives. Pastoral bisexuality is no longer a surprising thing. It is almost expected.
Perversion in the pulpit is almost a regular occurrence. Where the people know that the pastor is committing adultery with everyone willing to go to the defiled bed of perversion. Secret Sexual Sins is now Open Sexual Sins.
In most people’s minds, it’s to be expected for this is the progressive church.
Gay bishops. It’s common now. They will ordain other homosexual people and they will preach with seemingly great power and authority, but we know that the Lord is not in league with the very thing He detests.
Look at your flamboyant preachers. They look like they could do no wrong. Look closely, though and you will see all sorts of lewdness and perversion rise out of their hearts. You will see the people he or she preaches to applaud and hold their leader up. If they are criticized for walking in sin, they will use Psalm 105:15 on you. They will tell you to take your mouth off of their pastor living in sin. They will defend sin faster than righteousness.
They will always defend indefensible positions.
Sin is never defendable for the Lord condemned sin in the flesh of Jesus.
When they defend the commission of sin in a pastor faster than defending the righteousness of God, you now know who their king and kingdom is.
Perverted preachers and pastors preach really good but live like dogs in a filthy kennel. They rape and decimate the church they are supposed to tend; nurture, guard, guide, and fold the flock of God.
It is one hot mess, and the further decline and erosion of the true faith of Christ is anticipated to continue. These are the last days. The people that you all thought would remain in Christ may surprise some of you and defect to the camp of devils and demons.
We must remember, this is the apostasy that Paul warned of.
It is important for you to “be even more diligent to make your call and election sure.”
Make doubly sure that you do not fall away from the faith.
If your best friend do not want to go with God, let them turn into a pillar of salt. Do not look back. Stay true to the Lord no matter what. Even when it feels good, you better check your feelings at the door and know the Word of God for yourself.
In these last days, we want to take everyone with us, but be prepared to go alone if you have to. Not everyone wants to go to heaven. Many that are children of the devil are children of hell, and they desire to take you with them.
Only the crowd will go to hell. But you enter by the straight and narrow way. It’s tight and getting tighter. It’s right and getting righter. If you do not make it, just remember, you read it here or somewhere else that you had your shot, and you walked away at the wrong time.
As the saying goes in many marriage seminars…
“Many prepare for the wedding but they do not prepare for the marriage.”
So much has been said about the sinful activities of sex and what goes on in a marriage that we really do not have that much of a clue as to what a really good, successful marriage looks like.
Some of us are so inundated with TV marriages, TV homosexuality, 30 minute solutions, episodes, drama, and tidying up after a few episodes, that when the show on TV is over, we resume our “normal” routines. Because marriages, inside and outside the church end in divorce at the 50+% rate, we are challenged by LGBT. They have already issued a challenge that they could do better at marriage.
We all know that they can’t because of the sin of homosexuality. God did not join male and male or female and female together.
Genesis 2:24 is the basis for this for marriage is Biblically defined as a union between one male and one female. Homosexuals cannot become one flesh because their sex organs are incompatible. Therefore, they cannot teach heterosexual couples anything about marriage.
Besides, it’s about holy matrimony, not perversion.
In many marriages between one man and one woman, arguments, frustrations, adultery, fornication, porn, chat room porn, money issues, child abuse issues, molestations, religious fairy tale spins, and domestic violence, unnecessarily fill our lives.
When the Lord brought Eve to Adam, everything was set. Adam had God in his life. Adam had a job. He tilled the Garden and he was supposed to subdue and have dominion. Meaning that if there was anyone or anything out of the ordinary, it was his job to straighten it out. It was Adam’s job to handle business.
To cut right to the chase, it is what’s in the character of two individuals that determines the kind of marriage they will have.
We can no longer rely only on observing other couples because you are not going to see everything that goes on in their lives.
Too many times, we look to “marriage templates” to see what we can use to make a marriage successful. We look at their money handling experiences, sexual satisfaction experiences, time management experiences, and communication or connection experiences. We look to reinvent to find ways to bring vigor back to a relationship. We look to spice or bring spark to a dull relationship that is in deep trouble.
It all boils down to the man working on his character and the woman working on her character.
The fallen nature of Adam and Eve produced an evil character. Sinister character. Selfish character.
The only remedy to this is to be born again through the power of the Holy Spirit. To repent of sin. To come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9….
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
The Lord knows what lurking in the hearts of people. And let’s face it. People do not want to change. Some people are stuck in their ways and would rather divorce than change. If the heart refuses to change, people are in trouble and marriages are definitely in trouble.
Galatians 5:22 is the fruit of the Spirit. One person taught it this way that the fruit of the Spirit is the “recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit.”
In other words, after a person repents of sin, and is born again, the Holy Spirit teaches them how to mature in the character of Christ by the obedient application of the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit teaches men and women these things….
Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
Hence, a real marriage looks like these things because these things represent the very character or attribute of Christ.
We must all work these things into our lives and then work to bring it out of our lives.
No marriage is perfect but the Lord is perfect, and His Word is perfect.
Before I go further, a man and a woman must be satisfied in the Lord before they can be satisfied with each other. No relationship can achieve full satisfaction apart from a strong, vibrant relationship with the Lord. Too many couples are looking for satisfaction in a marriage and do not get me wrong, in a way some satisfaction will be achieved.
But God is the only One that can bring complete and everlasting satisfaction to a person.
God created man in His image (see Genesis 1:26). So man must look to the Creator and he must look to the Word of God as given from the Creator to help him incorporate the character of God into his character. It takes a lot of work by the man to relinquish “stubbornness, resistance, and rebellion” in his mind and flesh to receive correction where he is not proficient in the “recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit.”
Therefore, in order for a man to have a good marriage, he must be willing to take drastic steps to deal with his character in order for his marriage to last.
So it is also with the woman. She must be proficient in the “recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit.”
Too often, women spend so much time trying to influence her husband to be a certain way, and that is time wasted if you are pushy, and contending with him to be a certain way.
Sometimes, by pushing him, you are helping him into the bosom of a harlot.
The man is already in a “stubbornness, resistance, and rebellion” mode and the wife becomes really frustrated that he isn’t responding because he is in his “stubbornness, resistance, and rebellion” mode.
The one thing that wives must learn is that when you desire for your husband to change, sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes change has to begin with you before it can happen with your husband. Spend time looking within your heart and mind for areas where the Lord has told you to change but you refuse. Too often in the “beauty world” of women, their “outer perfection” is obscuring their character flaw within.
Look at what Peter said in 1 Peter 3:1-4…..
“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. Do not let your adornment be merely outward — arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel — rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”
We must all remember that there is somethings that we know are not right within us. The moment that we admit that and remain teachable, the Lord will help us all to make the right kind of adjustment that will bring a blessing to our marriages.
The fruit of the recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit is the true reflection of the heart of Christ. Before, during, and after the wedding, if a man and a woman would work on become these things in a relationship, everything else falls into place. From the Lordship and Dominion of Jesus and His Word, to incorporating these essential elements into his or her life, the rough edges and childish behaviors will dissipate.
The marriage relationship works from the inside out.
Notice what the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 12:33-35……
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.”
Let me reiterate.
The marriage relationship works from the inside out.
As a man, whatever is in you is going to come out. As a woman, whatever is in you is going to come out.
So what you say and do, if you are a good tree, good fruit is going to come out.
If you want a good fruit marriage, the fruit of the recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit must be produced. If you want a bad fruit marriage, then evil will come out all of the time.
You have to purpose to be mindful of the kind of fruit that is going to come out of you. That means you have to spend time making sure that childishness is subdued. Usually, marriages become bad due to childishness. And when childishness is in the mix, there is a deliberate and intentional abandoning of the fruit of the recreated human spirit by the Holy Spirit.
In other words, you stop doing what the Word says to do to have something or to do something that is detrimental to a relationship. So there must be a constant guard to always put the Word of God first before saying or doing something of a childish nature.
When a husband and a wife intentionally look to please the Lord, it becomes very difficult to do something against each other. Because you would never seek to do something harmful to the Lord. Additionally, you must remember that the Lord lives in each of you and what you do to each other reflects your true heart attitude towards the Lord.
We prove our love for the Lord when we keep His commandments (see 1 John 5:1-5). We disprove our love for the Lord when we deliberately sin against Him.
The same principle applies in our marriages. And when we intend to hurt our husband or wife, the Lord on the inside is hurt first because to hurt a person means that we intend to separate ourselves from the Lord and His Word to do what harm we intend to do to the one we claim to love, honor, and cherish.
Immaturity is the root of all divorces and separations.
But maturity in Christ is the root and foundation of all successful, and fruitful marriages.
This is what real marriages look like.
The Lord Jesus said this to John, the beloved disciple and eyewitness apostle of the Lamb….
“And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Please note in verse 8, the word “cowardly.”
For a while, I couldn’t get what the Lord meant by that and then after while, the events of our time came, front and center.
Left and right, pastors that we expect to toe the line and contend for the faith, shimmied and two stepped their way from the absolutes of the Word of God.
Many of your TV preachers that you put so much stock in, are found to speak out of two sides of their mouths. When posed with questions about the sin of homosexuality, they cower in fear and you can see it in their faces.
When we talk about Elijah fearing Jezebel, this is what we see.
Remember when the prophets of Baal, 450 of them were assemble at Mount Carmel? After The Lord rained fire on the altar full of water, Elijah commanded the men to seize the prophets of Baal and Elijah killed them all.
Word got back to Jezebel and she threatened Elijah’s life. Elijah ran.
After The Lord poured down fire from heaven after Elijah prayed, this event put Elijah down as one of the greatest prophets that ever walked the earth.
He didn’t finish his earthly ministry well.
He finished running from a sexually immoral, power hungry woman.
Assembled in many places are pastors and bishops sitting in places like The View or the OWN Network. Oprah Winfrey Network. And the same situation is before them.
Many of today’s, preeminent preachers that command the attention of thousands of people on Sunday, and millions, worldwide, sit on these shows and never challenge the false prophets and teachers of today.
When asked pointed questions, it is with a clear intentional avoidance and with lackluster, and no backbone that they give answers that make them appear that our God is small, insignificant, and can’t defend the righteous.
They give answers that magnify the devil. So soft are these answers that the devil dares God to sneeze.
And the people of God are wondering what is going on. Many have voiced outrage at these bishops and pastors that wilt when posed questions about homosexuality, abortion, and covetousness.
These men and women, when they get in front of the camera are so full of themselves that the God they claim to serve is suppressed because it’s their camera time.
The media has made them larger and no one can detect God in them. And the people are so mesmerized with them that they eat, sleep, and drink their lives that they cry out to be like them.
It’s a shame. They get behind their pulpits and they appear invincible. But when they get into a one on one, they wilt, and falter right on cue.
You were expecting them to blast the devil’s henchmen and the henchmen standing behind them shows them the blade of the axe if they say one word not discussed at the food table.
They are ready to crucify them if their guest deviates from the script.
The blade on the neck of Christian in days of old was welcomed by those that stood their ground to testify of the Savior. The saints of old feared no man for fear of God. To be denied because you denied Him, is the worst thing in the world.
Just remember Peter.
How he felt when he denied Jesus three times. The last time, Peter cussed and The Lord looked at Him.
But oh, the next time, Peter would not flinch and when it was time for Peter to testify, he learned his lesson.
Tradition has it that he was crucified upside down because he felt not worthy to be crucified like his Lord.
Today’s pulpit are filled with yellow belly cowards that are afraid to stand on the Word of God and denounce their humanistic demonically inspired rhetoric.
And the world is loving it.
Even more so, satan is just laughing.
These “pulpit giants” are like grasshoppers in the sight of the devil. My point is not to badger but it is to expose the fact that if there is ever a time to identify what the Lord Jesus meant by “cowardly,” just look at the interviews and how they represent the Lord Jesus in panel sessions.
The word “coward”
is the Greek word “delios” from “deos” (dread); timid, i.e. (by implication) faithless. This is Strong’s Concordance.
If this definition isn’t enough, look at Thayer’s Lexicon (Words).
“timid, fearful….of Christians who through cowardice give way under pressure and apostatize.”
This is exactly what we are seeing in our interviews and panel discussions that the world has. They call on the “greatest preachers and teachers” of our times and dare them to be a man or woman of stiff conviction.
In the greeting area of most of these places, they have food and other delicacies. They sit, have small talk and size them up.
Remember this Word….
“When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you; and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire their delicacies, for they are deceptive food.”
The cowards of the pulpit sit down, eat with them and then when it is question and answer time, because it is deceptive food, they fail to stand on the Word of God.
The food was good.
The hospitality, impeccable.
Why should I come down hard on nice people?
Why should they all be told that they need Jesus?
Why should they be told that they are good with God the way they are?
Why should I rain on their parade and tell them that if they refuse to repent, they shall all likewise perish?
There is no need to cause an uproar.
Can’t we all get along?
The 21st Century Pulpit Cowards love not to confront because that would isolate them. These cowards love the people and if people walk away from them because of the stand on the Word of God, they wouldn’t get paid, worshipped, and loved. Their titles in their mouths would cease to be heard. The respect would go with them.
But little do they know that all of that is worthless because only One Person gets all that.
People would walk away and the last thing that you want is for a mass exodus of good loving people that pay enormous amounts of money to sit on the front row of church to be told that they are good the way they are.
No conviction. No fear of God. Great praise and worship music, but no conviction for sins committed in the past week, or even a few moments ago, lusting after a woman sitting in front of you.
You see, the 21st Century Pulpit Cowards, when they do not confront the sin of our times, it’s because they have people in their congregations that are in sexual immorality. Secret Sexual Sins is all up in the house.
To confront the sin of our times demands that the preacher live clean lives. They must ” cleanse themselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
When they repent, and demand others to repent, it is only then that the preacher can confront the sin of the world with strong Holy Ghost conviction.
Holy men are an awesome weapon in the hands of the Holy God.
But when a man or a woman compromises, and let people in the house of God compromise, then they cannot confront the world with sin. And this is the reason why they do not confront when interviewed.
But God hates sin, and so should we. It’s also being able to extend them the grace of God so they can be free.
Taking a position against sin must be made. Taking a stand to help pull them out of sin by the blood and grace of Jesus is the ultimate goal, that glorifies God. Should they intentionally refuse, they must be told the fate of all those that reject the gospel. For all who pass through the portals of the doors of hell must abandon all hope.
The 21st Century Pulpit Coward will not preach truth. They will preach themselves because they are all about themselves.
The 21 Century Pulpit Coward will not stand and preach the Word and confront the sins of our day.
The 21st Century Pulpit Coward is only concerned about their image and how they look before people according to Matthew 23. They are hypocrites of the highest order.
The 21st Century Pulpit Coward, when confronted by the world media will say anything to save their own necks. And when it is time to represent Jesus well, they represent the devil and themselves well.
Go back to the definition of the coward. If you capitulate when it is time for you to stand, read the rest of verse 8.
As we were talking at a restaurant in Brooklyn after service, the Lord dropped a Scripture in my heart and mind.
Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; Like the rivers; He turns it wherever He wishes.”
Granted, we all wish that the positive side according to God’s plans and purposes is preferred, but let’s look at something very closely.
Under the radar, the then candidate, Senator Obama gave two speeches that many, including the NAACP, SCLC, LGBT, and outspoken African American pastors unhesitatingly applauded.
Planned Parenthood and LGBT rights.
Very few opposed these speeches and it was only after the fact. Many pastors and professed believers didn’t oppose these positions.
An African American was finally voted into high office. For the first time, an African American assumes the presidency.
On the day of his election, the cameras were strategically placed in some African American churches. People were going crazier in church for the election than they would for praising God. I didn’t vote for the president because he didn’t come close to the Biblical standards of the Word of God. Many of those that did vote for him were oblivious to the demonic positions of abortion and homosexuality harbored by this candidate, now president.
Many will be judged accordingly.
All of a sudden, over three years after his election, the president makes his move and supports LGBT agenda. It wasn’t a crowning achievement but nonetheless, a notable stand from the political pinnacle of power as orchestrated by the behind the scenes LGBT agenda.
A sitting president supporting homosexual marriage.
Then we have North Carolina placing Amendment One on the ballot and by a mandate, marriage is to be between one man and one woman and it was now placed in their state constitution.
What is profound is that 31 states stand against homosexual marriage.
Then you have African Americans in the NAACP and SCLC attempting to “roundup” pastors to support the president.
That false cry of support fell flat on their heads and they saw the NAACP, SCLC, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Joseph Lowery, and Julian Bond, rebuked and kicked to the curb by independent thinking, God fearing, Bible preaching pastors and believers.
In other words, a severe break and blatant disrespect, and disregard of these phantom voices of the past and a clear departure (with no return) from traditional Democratic “toe the line” rhetoric.
Then they sent the hound dogs (IRS and White House staff, including the Justice Department head) to warn pastors of speaking against the president from the pulpit. It was cloaked to “get support for the president’s position” but we all know that it was about warning those who dared not support the president. Any pastor that went, should have read Proverbs 23:1-3 before accepting any request to be at the White House or invite them to come and speak to any group of pastors.
You pastors need to stop being star struck by high profile people and stop giving men more honor than the God that called you to preach.
I’ve already said from the pulpit I preach from that anyone who votes for President Obama is voting for homosexuality and abortion. If you vote for this president, you are violating the Word of God.
Hebrews 13:5b says….
“For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my Helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
You are probably wondering why the title is there.
Here’s my point.
God did not use Obama to usher in these ungodly agendas. The Lord was never in bed with sin and it’s consequences. Rather, the Lord takes these things and begin to put the Word of the Lord for this era of time in the mouth of His faithful.
If it weren’t for their actions, the church would have went along like before. Like everything is rosy. In fact, to a certain extent, because of the economic conditions of our time, also known as “CONSEQUENTIAL IN HOUSE JUDGMENT IN THE CHURCH,” some of us is still preaching a prosperity gospel while living in Secret Sexual Sins.
You see, what the Lord has done is that people in the church have recognized that the church has played the harlot and prostituted itself with the devil. Some of us have come to our senses and we have put away the filthiness of the flesh and spirit and we have perfected holiness in the fear of God.
Some of us have recognized that we’ve grieved God long enough and that it is time to return to the Lord in repentance.
God, if there was a time for fasting, sackcloth and ashes, now would be the time.
But we are not in OT times.
Incidentally, many believe that there is only one aspect to fasting. Getting sensitive to the Spirit of God. It’s almost spooky.
Fasting in the OT was not about getting sensitive to the voice of the Spirit of God. There were only three persons in the OT that had the Holy Spirit upon them.
The prophet, High Priest, and king.
Although when you do stop eating and deprive the flesh of food, you are helping to deaden or deprive the flesh. There is an element of disciplining the flesh of its carnal ways, urges and impulses, and so forth.
But primarily, fasting was designed to deprive the body of its pleasure as an act of penance for sin. Sackcloth is clothing of the debased. Ashes is just throwing dirt on yourself to show God that you are nothing but dirt and filth and that you are showing God, through fasting, wearing debased clothing, and putting dirt on you to tell Him how sorry you are for sinning against God.
Jesus only fasted one time. The 40 days in the wilderness after the Holy Spirit came upon Him after His baptism in the river Jordan by John the Baptist to fulfill all righteousness.
So when you read these amazing Prayer and Fasting Books, if you do not see the original reason why they fasted in the OT, then you are being hoodwinked with a half truth.
So, with these things in mind, we now see that the hand of the enemy was on the president through Planned Parenthood, LGBT, NAACP, SCLC and other backdoor people to push sin from the Executive Office.
By doing this, the church has come alive in certain parts. Granted, not the entire church because many pastors and people that profess to be believers want their cake and eat it too. That is they want God and they want sin at the same time.
But here’s what happened.
Like never before, saints are standing up against sexual immorality and abortion. Like never before we are seeing a concerted effort to stand against the evils of our day.
Now what happens when “the king” resists the hand of the Lord?
We must remember what Proverb 14:34 says,
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
As far as the church is concerned, when we fail to do what we are called to do, that is, preach against unrighteousness and preach acceptance of the sin of homosexuality, also known as “inclusionistas” we are in the crosshairs of the judgment of God.
The other thing that we must consider is the fact that inside the church, the lines have been drawn. Those that are pathetically sympathetic to the very thing that God is against and those that stand firm as the righteousness of God in Christ.
There is exclusivity with being a child of God.
You cannot love darkness and be in the light at the same time. You cannot love God and love the devil at the same time. You cannot love righteousness and love sin at the same time. You cannot include sin where holy is exclusive. How dare you bring your unrepentant sin filled heart into the holy temple? It’s fine if you are to bring your sin to repent of it. But if you intend to sin when service is over, you are a bald faced hypocrite and you are deceived James 4:4.
It’s only the mercy of God that what we have experienced so far has caused considerable damage to people but at this point, what is about to come will pale in comparison. When the church refuses to do a rally call to repent and we go about our ways (preaching Christianity soft messages), we are ignoring Psalm 15 and Psalm 91.
A. W. Tozer said, “We must think rightly about God.”
You are either in sin or you are in righteousness.
You can’t have it both ways. Your death is proof that you cannot have it both ways.
Sin will be judged after death. Just be sure you are not on the wrong side of God when you stand before Him.
Father, we thank you for what is happening. Not the sin and wickedness that is before our eyes, but for the revelation of the fact that You were never caught off guard, and that you are working on the behalf of those that seek to put You first in all we do. Our eyes are open to the truth of Your Word; that we are to live according to the righteous standards of the Word of God regardless of what people think. We pray that they would repent and turn from their wicked ways and walk in the light as You are in the light. For there is no darkness in You. Forgive us of our wicked ways. For playing the harlot and prostituting ourselves with the devil. From here on, we choose to walk in holiness. For there, in Christ, by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, is our complete victory over sin.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thanks for reading.
The early church was confronted, and persecuted for its beliefs in Jesus. In comparison, the church today is Club Med. We are riding to the Caribbean on a cruise ship. We are dancing the night away and having a good time. The more you become salt and light in the earth for the Lord Jesus, the more you become a target to be persecuted.
Your finest hour of faith is not going to be your car, house, boat, or money from book royalties. Your finest hour will be your testimony for the sufferings of Christ. Can you fellowship with the sufferings of Christ?
We’ve been reading our Bibles wrong and we have misquoted so many “stand in faith” Scriptures.
Paul imprisoned many and consented to the deaths of Christians. Yet, Jesus personally enlisted him and Paul ended up being a martyr for the Lord.
Hear what the Lord Jesus said in Mark 10:28-31,
“Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” So Jesus answered and said, “ Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
The thing that we are ready for is the abundance when we leave all for the cause of Christ but we are not really ready for the persecution that is incrementally rising in the United States. We are conveniently comfortable. But all this is about to change whether you are ready for it or not.
Sexual immorality is the most divisive issue of our day.
When you talk to someone about their sins, sexual sins, Secret Sexual Sins, their participation in sex sins is worth more than money, drugs, alcohol, cars, house, or any other thing.
When you tell someone that they have to give up sexual immorality, you are taking a great risk because they will fight to the death to keep sexual immorality.
It’s not just homosexuality, it’s all sexual sins across the board.
The life of sin is so difficult to break from because of the promise of complete fulfillment.
All sexual sins, or any sins for that matter, gives this promise but it’s just a carrot on a stick that teases.
As the Lord told us, “…and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation.
The child of God today need to be aware that persecution is part of the price for being a child of God. You are salt and light in the earth and the devil is looking to render you ineffective in your walk before the Lord. If the devil cannot render you ineffective, he will intimidate you.
Fear for your life is one of the many tools that they enemy will use to get you to back away from preaching the truth of the Word of God. That’s why we need to shift our message. Not to confront as radical extremists but to preach the Word of God in season.
You are not liked. You are hated because of Jesus.
Therefore, you are a target. We had it good for a while. Nobody bothered us because we weren’t living lives of conviction. We didn’t have to tell anyone that we were a Christian. We kept things to ourselves but with GPS capabilities attached to your phone. With every credit or debit card purchase. With swiping a card to gain access to your job. When you log on a computer. Whether it is yours or the company you work for, you are being tracked to the maximum.
Your whereabouts is crucial because if they can determine what you believe, all they have to do is see what you’ve been up to and what your habits are.
Yes, big brother is watching you almost to the nano second, everything that you do.
Your habits are telling everyone what you are really about.
Why is this important?
Persecution is about to move from passive annoyance to chasing you.
You don’t think so?
The way that things are set up, do you honestly believe that the world is not going to bother you for your allegiance to Jesus? Do you think that by not carrying a Bible except by electronic devices that no one will discern who you really are?
I am not trying to scare you to live right. I am just warning you that our nice Christianity is about to experience a jolt that will require that you stay vigilant in Jesus. To not be moved away from the hope of the gospel.
If you study the writings of Paul, you will see that they were living in perilous times.
So perilous that if you knew Paul, your life was in danger. Every where Paul went, he started trouble and that’s the kind of Christianity the church is not aware of. We are not packaging a stand to be hated. We are already hated because they hate Jesus. We are not making a “confront the persecutors” package.
But when you know persecution is about to hit this nation for its stand against same sex unions, the sin of homosexuality is becoming the one thing that the world dares the church to unapologetically stand against.
The goal of persecution is to silence the voice of righteousness. To stop the defection from darkness to light (see Acts 26:18). Hence, NO H8’s duct tape over the mouths to silence people that speak the truth about the sin of homosexuality.
Soon, we may see duct tape over the mouths of saints as full blown persecution takes place. At this point, murder is against the law but we may see the day where the murder of a child of God that speaks the truth, and is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, is welcomed news.
It is interesting that the Book of Romans starts off talking about not being ashamed of the gospel of Christ and then in that same chapter, ends up preaching against same sex relations, the sin of homosexuality.
It really fascinates me to know that God was preparing His people for the hour we are now living in.
People of God, we are in the end times and this is not the time to be ashamed of Jesus.
This is the time to be firmly planted in the faith of Christ.
If you read the writings of Paul, you will see that many people that were once in the church left because of the persecution. But it wasn’t the only reason. Sadly, some people loved sin more than they loved the Lord.
Many were turned away to listen to other false teachers and prophets that had major connections to sexual immorality. If that is not enough, the persecution comes directly from members of the Body of Christ; people that supposed to “know God and their Bibles.”
You won’t know what a person believes until the moment of truth.
Just look at your family members.
How many of them are caught up in situations of the world of sexual immorality or substance abuse? You know that they know that you are into the Lord and His Word. The moment a conversation goes into Jesus, they are quick to shout you down because of their love for sin.
When you go to church, you didn’t expect so and so to be a practicing homosexual. You didn’t expect your pastor to come out of the closet and admit to his or her homosexuality and then persecute the righteous for not being tolerant. You didn’t expect that so many people would be for the president when he announced his support for gay marriages.
All of a sudden, the local church is seeing the demarcation. There is a deep divide on a simple sin/righteousness issue (see 2 Corinthians 6:14-18). And the divide in most local churches is not surprising.
In some cases, there’s no divide at all. The whole local church is for sexual immorality or the whole local church is for righteousness.
The hour we are living in is late and dark. We must make up our minds to stand in the face of persecution and dig deeper into Him like never before.
The hearts of men are failing everywhere and the world is proceeding on a perilous course that will separate the weak from the strong. The desperate for sin from the desperate for God. If you haven’t experienced the hatred, and the false prophets of our times to deceive many, you will.
